Question by SavvyLynn: Army Recruiters or Soldiers, Can I enlist as a Medical Labratory Specialist?
I believe my ASVAB is high enough. But regardless, I never took Chemistry in high school or college. I have always had honor prep courses in Physics and Biology but never Chemistry. It says the requirements are high school Algebra and Chemistry or equivalent. What does that mean? I have taken higher math and done fine. Any help, please!?

You can request that MOS, but must qualify through military tests and jobs must be available.

Your prior coursework is irrelevant for an enlisted position in the Army. In fact it seems to me they prefer you starting fresh rather than in a position where you might already have preconceived notions (Just an opinion).
If your ASVAB score is sufficient then obviously that won’t be a problem either.
What does and will matter is a tricky little phrase called, “The Needs of the Army”, Essentially what this means is that although you could well be the best suited person in the world for that position if there wasn’t existing need you could not get the position. The only person who can tell you is the person who processes you at MEPS.
Your recruiter will almost certainly tell you that there are slots available but don’t take them at their word. Go through the process, go to MEPS and when the MEPS guy is listing the jobs for which you are eligible make sure you make very clear that there is only one MOS you will accept. If you make it seem as if you are going to walk away they may (I EMPHASIZE MAY) be able to find a slot.
