My understanding of it was that, back in the 90s, Recruiting Command was a place that the cowards and incompetents would hide to avoid dangerous deployments. So RC gained a bad

Ideally every recruiter should see combat, or at least duty in a combat area, before they start recruiting.

i love recruiters, they make a lot of children leave their girlfriends behind while they kill scum over seas, and of course the sexual needs of their chicks get satisfied by a few of us that would not hold a weapon against another homo sapiens sapiens.
thanks recruiters of the us and canadian army.

My recruiter told me that life as a grunt would suck and now is not the time to go infantry. I got to my unit 2 weeks before we deployed to anbar in the summer of 2004. Here is my advice to anyone joining. DONT BE A PUSSY! dont bitch just do what you are told or go home.

They exaggerate the truth by leaps and bounds. I wasn’t going to join until I had assurance that I was going in as an 0311 and at the time lots of people were joining the Marines for infantry. I was given an in house contract, which was torn in MEPS Sacramento, and I was told that the only option was open contract.

So a former recruiter comes up to say he lied to get recruits and people decide to blame the entire Marine Corps…what? I see a douche bag who lies and doesn’t represent the Marine Corps.

A lie is a lie. A military recruiter is representing the Federal government. If he or she lies to get one of our own citizens to join a war, they dishonor the sacrifice of our troops who have fought for our freedom to prevent this sort of behaviour.
They may not be holding a gun to anyone’s head but they are enticing them with false information, which is un-American.
This type of dishonest behavior would emberass Ronald Reagan, George Washington and the founding fathers.
    God Bless America!

i enlisted as 0311 in the corps. my recruiter told me that the death toll in iraq/ afghanistan was at a low. i grad’d soi in late 2009. between graduation and today i’ve heard of 7 Marines that i knew personally that have been seriously hurt and two of those seven died…
    yeah
recruiters do lie to you. oh well. move on with life while you have it.

he asserted that the army would pay for the whole course of study.

So I did my basic training, then my core training then was posted to my unit.
When I got the chance I tripped down to the MSI (military studies institute) and informed them that I would like to apply to do my masters extramuraly.
    They laughed in my face.
    “What.. my recruiting officer said….”
“Oh, are they still telling people that one?”
Hey, I was going to join anyway. So I dont see why he had to tell a lie like that

  37. colonelpong
    September 7th, 2010 at 11:38 | #37

My recruiting officer lied to me.

He didnt need to as I was going to join anyway.
I had just finished university with a Bachelors degree in psychology and criminology.

But I didnt want to join the army as a field psych. Just didnt interest me. I wanted to go in as an infantryman. But I wanted to further my education too.

I made it clear that I was joining anyway. But when I asked if the army would help me complete my masters degree through extramural study – more to follow
