Q&A: Does it matter which Army recruiting station I go to?

Question by Hick: Does it matter which Army recruiting station I go to?
Time for a stupid question.
On goarmy.com, when I search for a recruiter’s station, the one that shows up is close to an hour away from my house, but this is the station that handles recruiting at my high school. I know of another station about 30 minutes away. Can I go to this other station or should I go to the one responsible for my school?

Go to the one nearest you. It will make paperwork and stuff easier for you and your recruiter.

Call first. If the closest recruiting station is not assigned to the geographical area of your home, they won’t be able to handle your application. If they do, it is considered “poaching,” and the recruiter can get into trouble.

EDIT: I would like to add to AD’s comment about protected high schools. Unless the regulation has changed, those who graduated from that high school were also protected for two years following graduation.

definitely go to the one easiest for you, all stations do the some thing. The biggest thing though is to go with the recruiter that you are most comfortable with, makes it easier to work with them, don’t go with one you can’t stand.

no it does not but you should play the field and talk to the navy recruiters and the army recruiters and the marine recurters and all the reserves and the national guard recruters and figure out what it is you really want to use the military for (because they will be using every bit of you) and figure otu which one is going to be the best option, but odds are you will go to the same regional MEPS station to enlist weather its navy or army or coast guard by the way if your wanting to go to college and pursue other things in your life then the national guard has the best options for that, if your just gung hoe wanna be rambo and stuff then active duty army infantry or marine infantry is the best for that if your looking to get job treaining that will get you a decent job when you get out of the military then the navy or air force will get you that. but as far as what station to go to it doesnt matter

According to USAREC (United States Army Recruiting Command), high schools are protected. What that means is that until you graduate a recruiter from another area can’t touch you and only the recruiting station assigned to your high school can process you. If you say “screw them” and try to enlist in a different station they won’t be able to process you. If they do, then the first sergeant or sergeant major in charge of your region will light that station commander up for not sending you to the correct station.

Don’t worry about it, though. If you are serious about joining then the recruiter in charge of your school will take the time to get you even if you are an hour drive away. Sometimes I have to drive that far for a senior applicant because of his high school even though he has another station close to him.
