Q&A: Should I go to the Air Force recruitment office or the National Guard recruitment office?

Question by casew2: Should I go to the Air Force recruitment office or the National Guard recruitment office?
I’m thinking about joining the Air National Guard. However, I’m not sure if I should go to the National Guard recruitment office (I figure it might be army only) or the Air Force recruitment office, which also happens to be in another state (so you would see the issue of trying to join the Ohio Air National Guard but going to a West Virginia recruitment office). Any advice? I prefer people who have had experience with the Air National Guard.

Air force. The Army National Guard aren’t the same as the Army Air National Guard.

Airforce. Trust me, this is coming from a 14 year US Army veteran. Aim high, cross into the blue, or whatever motto they’re using these days. Go AF, better everything. To include quality of people.

If an Army NCO telling you to go Air Force isn’t enough to make you go . . . maybe you should be a Marine.

You are right. The National Guard office is the Army National Guard — You want to visit the Airforce recruiting office. Unless you change your mind and want to join the Army National Guard! :]

Here is an answer you might not want to hear. Go to both for the following reasons.

You have not mentioned what your goals in life are. Nor have you mentioned why you are interested in joining the military.

When I was a bit younger, I faced the same questions. So I went to both. I took their examination to find out what jobs I could qualify for. I then selected the branch of the service which provided me training in the carreer path I was interested in.

I started off wanting to go into the navy but ended up in the air force. I wanted to learn about missiles and electronics. The navy wanted me to try out for a job on a submarine. The air force offered me the chance to work on missiles and satellites. I got the opportunity to work on the very first GPS satellites created by John Hopkins University many years ago. I have no regrets.

Look forward five years. Where do you want to be? Then select the option that gets you closest to that point.

    Good luck!!.

I don’t think very many people understood your question. First try calling both offices. Call the Air National guard first and tell them where you live. They will be able to tell you who to contact that is close to you. They may be able to send you to a air force recruiter near you, or just meet you in person themselves.

Well if there is no Air Guard unit near you,

Why would you want to enlist in the Air Guard ?

You would have to move, to be close enough to make your monthly drill.

And moving for a part time , two day a month job, makes no sense at all.
