Businesses that work with freelance contractors must take greater care to ensure they are properly protected. So says the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, in response to a recent court judgement banning four directors of an HGV driver agency from running an recruitment business for ten years. The directors were found guilty of five counts of breaking employment law, including failure to keep adequate records and to ensure that their workers have the correct permits for their jobs. The REC argued that the case should act as a reminder to recruitment agencies of their responsibilities to professional contractors and freelance staff that they place for work.
