listen mate, i used to work in recruitment for nearly 5 years, i don’t any more i’m happy to say – and you’re right – there are a lot of bad firms out there.. but not all.. just some.
you’re also right, they do need to interview people to hit targets – infact a lot of your comments are partially true…
but in total honesty, you just have to accept that the recruiter didn’t want to put you infront of his client..
if you think you can get the job yourself – then i say get out there and do it.

I think that the problem that this lad has is that no-one has been honest with him. I don’t get paid to register people, I get paid to place them, therefore, It is in my best interest to find someone a job. However, if that person does not have the skills/personality to match the role/company, they will not get the role. Someone needs to be honest with you to tell you what you need to change and you need to listen to a professional like myself who has a fantastic repuation in this industry.
that’s true mate i did the smae ting went down to find the place they made me register, said they would phone but never did, i felt uneasy there and tbh you right it’s all shit, lucky i have myself an apprenticeship now so i no longer have to go to the depressing jobcentre every week it’s ridiculous.
Even REC accredited agencies are liars……recruitment consultants have to meet targets or they get fired, so to try to keep their jobs they lie to candidates & clients alike.
It’s about time that employers realised that it is they who can recruit their best staff, not some recent graduate or school-leaver who has no knowledge of the working world!.
Not all agencies are the same, any “high street” recruiters are failed specialist recruiters.
I’m in specialist IT recruitment, we only get commission on placements made and contract rates are to cover and process paperwork, if I place a contractor I expect to be paid for the amount of work to get them placed!!!!
If the recruitment industry wasn’t essential to business in the UK it wouldn’t be worth about £23billion a year. Saying all recruitment agencies are liers (or liars) is like having a bad meal in one restaurant and saying that based on that all restaurants in the country are bad. Look for agencies that are REC accredited as they will have proper processes and quality standards.

This stinks! I wrote to my mp and never had a reply I can see why, also in my area The Polish are favored over English and one place I worked the fire alarm went off and the Polish carried on working, so they don’t understand Health and Safety either what a mess we are in
I have worked for agencies some are better than others, I have had alot of lies told me and have emailed my MP for Burton On Trent Staffs, the way to hurt the agencies is not drop to their level of swearing and abuse keep a mobile phone on you record them lieing and take it to your local paper and people will see what they are like and not use them and they will close down. There are some agencies that are ok but the majority are awful.
