When talking to a military recruiter, what should I ask?

Title:

When talking to a military recruiter, what should I ask?

Question by Cassius W: When talking to a military recruiter, what should I ask?
And moreover what is okay and not okay to ask? If I could, I’d ask my dad for answers but I can’t do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should ask if he or she is willing to take a lie detector test.

The number one thing: if he promises you anything, GET IT IN WRITING. It is ok to ask anything you want to know about the military. That’s his/her job. One of the first things you will do is take the ASVAB, after that, see what you qualify for and ask anything and everything concerning specific jobs for which you qualify. And finally if you come to the point of actually enlisting, read every page of your contract and if you don’t understand something, ask a liason at MEPS about what it means (not your recruiter. A recruiter’s job is to fill quotas, the liason’s job is to make sure you are informed and to handle the legal paperwork). Don’t sign if you don’t understand something or if you disagree with something. Once you sign, you have an obligation before the UCMJ.

You should ask what type jobs are available to you based on the testing they do. If you do not like what you hear go to another recruiter until you get the job you want. If you can’t then don’t join.

Remember, the are called “recruiters” because they are looking for people that will fill the needs of that particular service. They need you, You only need them to facilitate getting what you want.
