Question by hotrobb97: When working with a recruiter/headhunter, Will a company pay more or less than what the recruiter is offering?
I’ve just been offered a position for a good company through a recruiter.. I’ve never worked with a recruiter and want to make sure I dont get screwed at the end of the 3 month period. I’m wondering if theres a standard ratio or somthing companys use when dealing with recruiters ?

The recruiter is nothing more than an agency for the employer (company). The company controls what the salary offer and other compensation is, not the recruiter. The recruiter is just a “middle man” who helped find you as a candidate. The recruiter can only offer you what the company authorizes. Anything the recruiter is offering you has been approved by the company.

All recruiters are paid by the company for their services. If they are a retained recruiter, they get paid somewhere between 25% and 40% of your first-year salary and bonus. They make this whether they find a candidate for the job or not. If they’re a contingent recruiter, they typically make a little less (closer to 20%) but are not paid unless you accept a job offer and make it through the first 90-180 days.
