Title: Why does the military prefer recruiting men under the age of 21?
Question by Dimples: Why does the military prefer recruiting men under the age of 21?
Im wondering why the military prefers younger men than older? I realize it probably has something to do with their body’s. Are they typically more physically fit? Are they easier to train? And if you could tell me how & where you got the information it would be appreciated! Thank you

They are more likely more physically fit.
It has far more to do with grooming males that are not mature adults yet… and that’s what the pride of the military is, turning boys into men…
Think about how many 30+ year old’s have full time jobs, mortgages, and kids… and then think how many 18 years old’s have any of those…
It’s a compromise of opportunity and sacrifice that someone at a younger age is more inclined to make…
And yes, of course young age makes you more able to endure the physical requirements of military service… but it has more to do with channeling the usual post-adolescent chest beating into something more constructive as a productive member of society…
They dont have families, and the reasons you mentioned. Honestly, the guys over there are still dumb kids. We are sending boys to do a mans job. But in order to send men, we would have to pay them more.
I find it unconscionable that our soldiers are going into harms way for 30,000 a year. We should give them a dignified salary that will attract better people for the job.
Ksilvia’s right.Plus they have younger minds, so it’s easier to put things in. Less opinionated, i guess.
Watch the advertisements the military makes _ most of them try to stress the opportunities available if they go into the military. Perhaps the main reason is that tuition costs for college decrease for people that serve in the military; since most people that go into the military come from poorer backgrounds, they may be going into the military to help pay for college.
Older men, on the other hand, will often have families to take care of, as well as jobs that pay better than the military does.
It has to do with the mindset of younger people, not just their physical attributes.
The armed forces aren’t stupid. There’s a reason they heavily recruit amongst minorities, the poor, and young males: they go to people who are far and away more likely to enlist.
Young people have less obligations, less responsibilities, and — in general — think less about the consequences of their actions. I know many eighteen-year-olds who went into the military right after high school thinking the whole thing was just a big video game.
This fact is not lost on military recruiters.
